Neil Lynes Hinckley LRFC suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat away to Harborough Town on Saturday afternoon.

A first half goal by Tendai Daire was enough to seal the three points for the home side despite Hinckley pushing the hosts all the way to the very end.

In a first half that wasn’t exactly filled with chances, the home side took the lead in the 20th minute, Daire slotted home a rebound after Will Highland initially made a good save following a shot from Dom Wysocki.

Apart from a few long-range efforts that didn’t cause the Harborough keeper any trouble, Hinckley’s first real chance came in the 41st minute when a cross from Jordan Burrows was flicked on by Nick Reeves to the feet of Andre Williams who took a shot but was sent narrowly wide following a deflection from a Harborough defender.

In the second half Hinckley started to take the game to Harborough more, putting the home side under more pressure as they pushed for an equaliser.

Simon Alcott had a chance in the 73rd minute when he attempted an effort on the half volley just outside the box which caught the goalkeeper offside but crept narrowly wide of the post.

Hinckley felt they should have had a penalty a minute later when a cross into the box was intercepted by a Harborough player who passed it back to his keeper who picked up the ball. Despite the shouts from the Hinckley players, the referee saw nothing wrong with it and all claims were quickly waved away.

Lewis Jones then had a chance in the 87th minute when a quick free kick from Joe Lyne was played to Jones who had acres of space, but his effort went wide of the post.

Despite the result focus now turns on next Saturday as we take a break from league action to take on Nuneaton Borough in the next round of the FA Trophy.
