Coleshill Town vs Hinckley LRFC - Match Report

Daniel Darby14 Dec 2024 - 19:04

Chris Jones scored an 87th minute winner as 10 men Hinckley secured a win at Pack Meadow this afternoon.

In a game with very little goal mouth action it was the forwards 2nd goal of the Season that was the difference between the sides.

In a first half with very little goal mouth action Coleshill produced the best 2 chances of the half. After a even first 35 minutes which saw both teams get into decent positions without delivering a killer final ball Laban was called into action on 39 to save low from just inside his box.

Coleshill then hit the bar on the stroke of half time from a free kick but it was the events preceeding the free kick that would be the talking point. Coleshill played a long ball over the top of Humphreys, Humphreys and the Coleshill forward tangled legs as the forward went to ground. The referee saw nothing wrong and allowed play to continue before spotting the assistants flag in the air. After consultation with his assistant he showed Humphreys the red card much to the surprise of all 22 men on the pitch.

The red card along with Brennan exiting the pitch at half time left Hinckley with an uphill in task in the second half however The Knitters battled and defended manfully allowing Coleshill to keep possession of the ball but restricting them to long range efforts nothing majorly troubling Laban.

The Hinckley number 1 did make one notable save from distance getting across to palm away a long range effort.

On 87 Hinckley got their chance. After winning the ball back midway inside their own half the ball was played into Jones who had dropped deep. 2 quick passes saw Read play the ball beautifully into the channel for the marauding Gill, he squared for Jones who had run 50+ yards to cutely finish the move he started sending the Hinckley contingent into delight.

Coleshill pushed for an equaliser but Hinckley defended as a team winning every header, every second ball with Laban mopping up anything that came past the Hinckley back line.

It's a huge 3 points for The Knitters who face a tough festive period taking on 2 teams in the playoff positions along with another who have just recently dropped out of the top 5.

Next up it's a trip to Steel Park as we take on Corby Town
