Gresley Rovers vs Hinckley LRFC - Match Report

Luke Gurney13 Dec 2023 - 00:06

Hinckley LRFC had to settle for a point on the road to Gresley Rovers on Tuesday night in a 0-0 draw in Northern Premier League action.

On a day where it was touch and go until the very first whistle whether the game would go ahead or not, Hinckley had to battle hard in treacherous conditions to secure a valuable point.

It was a game that saw very little to no chances for either side on a poor pitch, Hinckley can take several positives despite being disappointed not to walk away with all three points.

The game arguably suited the hosts more with Neil Lyne’s side having not played in conditions such as Gresley’s, defending extremely well yet not creating lots.

Hinckley were unable to play their usual game of long balls over the top with majority of balls going astray with top goal scorer Tendai Daire having little to no service during the game.

The closest Hinckley came in the first half was in the 15th minute when Louie Gill played in Daire who squared it back across goal to Yaegan Gore, but his scuffed shot on the goal line was somehow cleared by the home defence.

Then in second half stoppage time Hinckley thought they found a winner through Dom Brennan who ran in behind the defence but striking the post from a tight angle.

Will Highland was forced into a couple of world class saves either side of the interval as the Hinckley number one continues to get back to full fitness following a major knee operation.

Despite being disappointed at not taking three points against a side in the relegation zone, in tricky conditions Hinckley can look back at this game as a hard earned point on the road, knowing that on their day in any conditions they can beat anyone.
