Hinckley LRFC vs Anstey Nomads - Match Report

Daniel Darby26 Dec 2024 - 21:10

Hinckley Leicester Road went down 1-0 in a boxing day local derby at Leicester Road.

Hinckley came into the game looking to make it 3 wins on the bounce after victories against Coleshill and Corby but a second half Zayn Hakeem goal meant the visitors left with all 3 points.

In dense fog at Leicester Road it was Anstey Nomads who shaded the first half, Fenton found space inside the Hinckley box on 10 minutes but his effort was blocked by Humphreys.

Nuttall found himself in behind the Anstey defence on 15 choosing to square rather than shoot but the ball was deflected out of Reads path. Nuttall then played in Burrows on 35 but his effort didn't trouble Logans goal.
Hakeem then found a little space just inside the Hinckley box but with the last kick of the first half he managed to not only clear the cross bar but the stand itself putting his effort into the Leicester Road car park.

7 minutes into the second half the visitors took the lead, from a Hinckley corner Anstey broke with Tongue, his cross field pass found Furey who's cross shot deflected into the path of Hakeem who controlled and finished from 6 yards.

Anstey had a chance on the hour to double their lead but fired over when in a good position. The game then took on odd turn on 62 when Niall Prenderville and Joseph Lyne went into a 50/50. The referee blew for a foul and a what appeared to be a free kick to Anstey. The referee then showed a second yellow and red card to Prenderville much to the surprise of everyone. After protests from the Anstey players and then consultation with his assistant he reversed his decision with Ansteys number 6 staying on the pitch.

Read found space on the edge of the box but his goalward effort was blocked out for a corner. On 77 minuted Hinckleys chances were severely hampered after a red card to Callum Earls. Earls went into a 50 50 and the ball broke for Fenton in the Hinckley half and the flag went up for what appeared to be offside much to fury of Fenton. The assistant consulted with the ref and showed Earls a red card for a stamp on the Anstey defender.

Hinckley stepped up with 10 men, Nuttall found space on the right hand side cutting in and forcing a save out of Logan in the Nomads net then Burrows 20 yard effort was spilled by Logan but no could pounce on the rebound.

Anstey held on for 1-0 victory meaning Hinckleys first defeat of December and The Knitters sitting 17th in the league 6 points clear of the relegation zone as 2024 comes to an end. It's Long Eaton United away next for The Knitters on New Years Day.
