Hinckley Leicester Road picked up their first league victory of the season with an outstanding 5-1 victory over Rugby Town at Leicester Road.
This could and probably should of been more as a dominant second half performance sealed all 3 points for the Knitters.
The opening 10 minutes started fairly even neither side managing to get a foothold in the game with Hinckley creating the first chance as Armstrong shot over from inside the box.
On the half an hour mark Hinckley had the first real chance, Brennans initial free kick hit the wall but struck the bar from the rebound and after a couple of minutes of sustained Hinckley pressure Brennan brought the first save of the day out of Rugby keeper Hathaway. 2 minutes later another set piece from Brennan, this time a corner, found the head of Humphreys to head home the opening goal of the game.
Nuttall broke the offside trap but a last ditch tackle from the Rugby defender stopped it being 2-0. The game ticked away to half time with no major incidents with Hinckley leading 1-0 at the break.
As the second half began Hinckley were first out the blocks again Lyne set Nuttall free inside the box but his shot was saved by Hathaway at his near post but less than 10 minutes later it was 2. Read set Nuttall free down the left he pulled it back to Brennan who calmly set himself and lifted over the keeper.
Hinckley continued to dominate and just after the hour Read this time sprung the offside trap. Hathaway made the save but the ball fell to Nuttall who tucked home for his first of the season and 3-0.
It was 4 moments later when Humphreys ball over the saw Read once more break the offside trap. He sat Hathaway down before stroking in for 4-0
Read then ran straight through the Rugby defence but his low effort was held by Hathaway. On 76 Humphreys got his second and Hinckleys fifth thumping home another header from Brennans cross.
On 89 Rugby pulled a goal back from the penalty shot after it appeared the ref penalised Lyne for a handball. Trey Charles blasted into the top corner from 12 yards but Hinckley saw out the 5-1 scoreline to record their first league victory of the season.
A fantastic performance all across the pitch with 5 goals and restricting Rugby to no shots on target from open play. We move on to an away trip to Racing Club Warwick on Tuesday night.
