Kidsgrove Athletic vs Hinckley LRFC - Match Report

Luke Gurney14 Sep 2022 - 12:42

Hinckley LRFC progressed into the next round of the FA Trophy on Tuesday night following a thrilling 4-3 victory away to Kidsgrove Athletic.

Goals from Lewis Jones, Yaegan Gore and a brace by Andre Williams were amongst the goals for Hinckley in what will go down as one of the games of the season.

In an explosive opening 20 minutes, Hinckley took the lead in the 4th minute when Jones was played through down the left-hand side, before beating the defender driving into the box and slotting it beautifully past the keeper.

Kidsgrove then equalised in the 11th minute when a free kick was headed back across goal where Aaron Bolt was there to tap it home.

The home side then took the lead just three minutes later when another free kick came into the box where Will Highland palmed it away but only to the feet of Bolt who fired home the rebound for his second of the match.

But despite the quick turnaround from the home side, Neil Lyne’s side remained strong and equalised almost instantly in the 16th minute, when in a goalmouth scramble the ball fell to Williams who did well to fire home under pressure.

Hinckley then had another brilliant chance to take the lead in the 18th minute when Pradeep Bahrey whipped a ball into the back where he found Danny Jenno unmarked at the back post but could only head the ball narrowly wide of the post.

After the fireworks that occurred in the opening stages of the match, the game did calm down towards the end of the first half, but Hinckley once again took the lead in the 38th minute Williams got his second in a near identical situation to Jones opener. Williams was played free down the left-hand side beating the defender driving into the box before firing it high over the keeper into the roof of the net.

In the second half the chances calmed down but with how the first half played out there was always going to be more goals to come.

It was Kidsgrove who got the first goal of the second half as they equalised in the 57th minute when Bolt got his hattrick as he was found unmarked at the back post once again to tap home.

It was the home side started to take control of possession following the equaliser as they tried to push for a winner. However, they never really put Highland under much pressure in the Hinckley net.

Liam Read had a golden opportunity to give Hinckley the lead once again when he found space into the box and slid in to meet a Jarred Acton cross. It looked destined to rustle in the back of the net but unfortunately it went only inches over the bar.

But then in the 84th minute, Hinckley did take the lead once again when Yaegan Gore off the bench stepped up with what could be one of the goals of the season. The ball was played into the box before being cleared by the Kidsgrove defenders, but it fell to the feet of Gore who struck it beautifully on the volley from about 25 yards out into the top right corner in what was an unstoppable strike.

As the game entered the final moments, Hinckley were doing well to see the game out. However, their task was made more difficult in stoppage time when captain Jenno was shown a straight red card for a tackle which the referee deemed as late and reckless.

Despite going down to 10 men, Hinckley stood strong and managed to see out till the final whistle and progress into the next round.

Neil Lyne’s side will now face either Cambridge City or Yaxley who play on Wednesday night, at the Leicester Road Stadium on Saturday 24th September.
