Difficult conditions and a significantly depleted squad threw up some challenges this weekend but the lads showed that they could come through it.

Just 8 minutes in and the boys found themselves 1-0 behind with the visitors first foray into the Leicester Road half. 2 minutes later we lost Dylan to a hamstring injury which left us with 1 sub for the rest of the game.

The early goal from the visitors did not deter the home team and they continued to press and play nice neat football through the thirds and after 13 minutes we were level with Ben Collins finishing off a slick move from the home team.

Unfortunately the lead only lasted 30 seconds with the visitors 2nd visit into the Leicester Road penalty box and some scrappy defending saw us fall behind once again.

Not to be deterred the boys continued to move the ball around in triangles and create several chances going close on a number of occasions. 20 minutes in saw the home team level with a rare looping header from in form striker Ben Collins to make it 2-2.

Despite continuing to pressure, and a couple of fine saves from the visitors keeper and the uprights coming to the rescue, Leicester Road were unable to take advantage of the controlling football they were inserting on the game.

Again a third breakaway attack saw the visitors take the lead once again with a deflected shot that snook into the bottom corner.

Once again the young boys were undeterred and pressed forward immediately from the resulting kick off, a great run down the line from Ben Marvel saw the ball delivered into the box, only to be cleared to Maverick who quickly lay the ball back to Kian who with a drop of the shoulder moving the ball onto his right side fired the ball into the bottom corner of the net from 25 yards 3-3 with 27 minutes gone, this could be a cricket score.

A strength of the home side had been the high press and this was used to great effect straight from the kick off to win the ball on the left again a quick delivery into the box for Ben Collins to slot home for his hat trick.

Continued pressure throughout the first half saw the visitor’s keeper make several more saves along with the uprights preventing the lead stretching even further. Right on the stroke of half time again using the high press Edward was played through on goal and coolly slotted home for a well-deserved 5-3 lead at half time.

The second half continued in very much the same pattern with the home side dominating possession and moving the ball quickly creating several more chances and if we had goal-line technology the lead would have increased further. Once again against the run of play the visitors had a breakaway and scored an excellent 4th in the 58th minute.

This did not deter the home team who continued to play quick ball and create chances and in the 66th minute Ben Collins scored his 4th goal of the day slotting home at the near post following an excellent assist from goalkeeper Harry spotting the opportunity to break quickly.

The home team were not finished there and again great work down the left hand side saw goal scorer Ben turn provider with a great cross into the box which was met by Frank on the volley, Leicester Roads 7th goal of the game.

Leicester Road had further chances to add to the total but for some good goalkeeping from the visitors, overall an outstanding performance from the team, with a special mention to Maverick for the 2nd game this season providing a hat trick of assists to his team mates.

Well Done Boys.
