Quorn U18’s v Hinckley LRFC U18’s (Midweek)- Match Report

Michael Sumner6 Feb - 08:38

Penalty shootout takes the Under 18’s to the County Cup Final.

A penalty shootout would be required to separate the sides at the Farley Way Stadium as Quorn and Hinckley LRFC’s respective under 18’s sides went toe t toe to gain a place in this years Midweek Youth County Cup Final.

Hinckley started the quicker and more intense of the two sides and could have been a goal to the good after only a few minutes when Callum Sumner struck from distance with the dipping and swerving effort needing a save from the Quorn keeper. The Quorn number one was the focus of attention a few minutes later when he sustained an injury saving another effort on his goal. Unfortunately, the Keeper could not continue and was substituted. The early woes for Quorn continued as the new keeper was beaten by an effort from Parker Koutta shortly after coming one. Hinckley could have scored more but did capitalise and unfortunately conceded a scrappy goal after failing to clear a second ball from a cross.

The score at Half Time Quorn 1 Hinckley 1

Hinckley started brightly in the second half however a second yellow for Koutta resulted in the Knitters being reduced to ten men for the last quarter of the game. Arguably Hinckley raised the tempo and played better football for the remainder of the game with the player disadvantage but neither side could break the deadlock.
A penalty shootout with 4 spot kick of quality from Micah Tomlin, Isaac Hart, Callum Sumner and Thomas Brody coupled with two excellent saves from Spencer Stacey ultimately sent the Hinckley Under 18’s group to the final leaving Quorn to reflect on an opportunity missed playing with a man advantage for a large portion of the second half.
