Rossell hat-trick guides Development Side to Kirby win...

Luke Hall19 Mar 2024 - 07:20

Development side hit 5 in away route..

Hall & Hardy welcomed back Chris Jones and Luke Barratt into the squad which was a welcome relief as Sam Carroll failed a fitness test, Young & Mensu-Bonsa were unavailable whilst Greenwood was called into the first team. Harry Smith & Harry Warner also returned into the match day squad after injury.

Hinckley started the game well on the 3G surface and should have gone ahead when Rowe headed wide when well placed after just 7 minutes.

Hinckley had gathered complete control of the game and it was that man Rowe again who fired wide when through on goal. Rowe then forced the keeper into another save with his feet almost immediately after. Hinckley had another good chance with a free kick in a dangerous area but captain Worrad fired over.

On the half hour mark and completely against the run of play, Kirby made it 1-0. Good work down the Kirby left hand side was played inside and a neat turn from the Kirby midfielder set himself free past Worrad and he calmly finished past the advancing Jeffrey.

Hinckley responded almost immediately after and it was a fantastic finish which brought the game level. Rudkin picking up second ball played in Stanley Rossell on the corner of the box and his sweet strike across goal found the bottom corner on 34 minutes.

Hinckley finished the half off strongly as Dugbo fired wide whilst Rudkin hit the wall with a handily placed free kick. Both sides went into half all square at 1-1 although Hinckley probably felt they should have been ahead.

Kirby started the second half on the front foot and for the first 10 minutes they dominated possession without really threatening Jeffrey in the Hinckley goal.

Hinckley started to wrestle control back and on 60 minute Rossell scored his and Hinckley's 2nd goal. A ball over the top from Worrad caused confusion in the Kirby back line and Rossell nipped in to fire into an empty net.

It was the start of a 6 minutes blitz as just 4 minutes later, Chris Jones was brought down in the box. Despite being on penalty duty, Jones gave the ball to Rossell and he fired home to complete his hat trick.

On 66 minutes it was 4-1, a perfectly waited ball from Jack Warner played in Micah Rowe who made no mistake when through on goal, calmly rolling the ball into the corner.

Hall introduced youth products Joe Marriott & Jasper Clarke as Hinckley continued to turn the screw. Their possession throughout the game looked like it had taken its toll on Kirby.

Further subs were introduced and it was pleasing to see Harry Smith back after a couple of weeks out due to injury along with Harry Warner who had been taken off the previous week with a nasty looking knock. Callum Sumner also entered the pitch as Hinckley finished with three 16 year olds on the pitch.

And one of those youth players scored their first Senior goal for the Development team when Dugbo set Jasper Clarke through on goal with a perfect slide rule pass. Clarke shown huge calmness as he rolled the ball past the keeper before firing into an empty net.

Shortly after Hinckley felt they should have had another penalty, Sumner appeared to be brought down however the referee appeared to be the only person in the ground to miss it. Scott Hardy on the touchline was cautioned for his protestations as Hinckley seen out the remaining 10 minutes comfortably.

Hinckley remain in 3rd place, 3 points behind Leicester Athletico in the second promotion place with a game in hand.
