Shepshed Dynamo vs Hinckley LRFC - Match Report

Luke Gurney13 Aug 2024 - 21:07

Hinckley LRFC conceded a 90th minute goal, falling to a 2-1 defeat away to Shepshed Dynamo.

Following Saturday’s 2-0 opening day defeat to Corby Town, Hinckley looked to pick up their first points of the season against Shepshed.

However despite dominating for the majority of the game, it was the hosts who sealed the win in stoppage timing picking up their first points of the campaign.

Hinckley got off to a brilliant start, creating chances and looking the most likely to break the deadlock.

Neil Lyne’s side almost took the lead just six minutes in when Louie Gill played a cross on the left which was headed back in by Ben Humphreys to Aaron Nuttall, who fired his shot over the bar.

Then three minutes later Harry Wakefield did brilliantly to turn his man deep into the Shepshed half. However, as he drove into the penalty area, he dragged his shot just wide of the post.

In the 36th minute, Hinckley were awarded a penalty when Ben Humphreys was taken down in the box. Aaron Nuttall stepped up but failed to hit the target as his effort struck the top of the crossbar.

Seven minutes later, Shepshed were controversially awarded a penalty of his own when Jarred Acton was deemed to handle the ball inside the area.

There was however confusion amongst the officials, as the assistant referee who’s was right next to the incident seemed to say it was outside the area but the referee overruled him and pointed to the spot.

James Shaw stepped up sending Jake Laban the wrong way putting the hosts ahead.

Hinckley responded instantly though when two minutes later a cross on the right from Dom Brennan found Humphreys who beat his man slotting it past the keeper.

In first half stoppage time time Laban was forced into a brilliant save when a header clearance from Andrew Kear was misjudged and looked destined for the bottom corner and an own goal.

Laban reacted quickly though, diving down to his left pushing it wide.

In the second half the game turned scrappy with both teams battling to take control of the game.

Hinckley had a chance to take the lead 77 minutes in when Nuttall played a beautiful ball through to Gill whose effort went straight into the keepers hands.

With the game looking like it was going to end level, the hosts snatched it at the death when Chad Timson fired and shot from outside the area into the top corner giving Laban no chance.

Hinckley pushed for an equaliser, but apart from a late Brennan effort which flashed wide of the post, were unable to find an equaliser.

Lyne’s side take a break from the busy start of season schedule on Saturday, and can look to regroup as they turn their attentions to the FA Cup as they travel to Step Five side, Heanor Town.
