Match Report:
Leicester Road FC v Littleton FC FC- Saturday 17th September 2016 – (HOME)

Leicester Road were back in league action after their exploits in the FA competitions and visitors Littleton arrived with a history of close games between the clubs.

Sam Munton was missing from the starting line up with Tom McGlinchey and Matty Stenson coming back into the starting 11.
The visitors took the initiative from the start and put the home team defence under pressure in early minutes, so it was slightly against the early run of play when Jake Holt picked the ball up outside the Littleton box and hit a sharp right footed shot past the Keeper’s right hand and into the bottom left hand corner. This settled Leicester Road down and they started to play the slick passing game that the surface at Leicester Road permits. But it against the run of play again when the visitors equalised when their No. 10 headed in at the far post. This prompted the hosts to push on and after they had been awarded a free kick, a quick play saw Nick Hawkins unleash a ferocious shot which the keeper did well to parry, but to no avail as Matty Stenson was on hand to sweep in the rebound. LRFC 2-1 Littleton FC.
With half time approaching a Littleton defender dwelt on the ball at the back and as he passed the ball back to the keeper it was Stenson again who nipped in to take the ball round the keeper and into the empty net.
H/T LRFC 3-1 Littleton FC

The second half started with a goal fest as first Greg Downes was fed a ball back and from 30 yeards he curled a beauty into the top right hand corner. Within a minute it was 5-1 as space was created on the left side of the box for Theo Brown to strike a low cross shot past the stranded keeper. Littleton struck back immeadiately and within a minute it was 5-2 as the ball was turned past the home keeper at the near post. At this stage the game was finely poised and after Will Highland had turned away a Littleton free-kick the rebound was knocked in only for the Linesman’s flag to deny the Littleton forward. The Leicester Road team were spurred by the reprieve and it was Matty Stenson wo claimed his hat-trick when he powered home a header from a corner despite the brave efforts of the defender on the line. With the match put to bed Leicester Road continued to play some excellent passing football and the icing on the cake was provided by Jake Holt in the last minute when he finished off a move to complete the scoring.
