Leicester Road FC v Heath Hayes FC -Saturday 12th November 2016 – (AWAY)
After nine matches unbeaten that had seen them rise to second in the Midland Football League Division One, Leicester Road travelled for a tough looking game at Heath Hayes knowing that three points would see them top the table for the first time.
The Leicester Road starting line-up was unchanged from last week and on the bench Matthew Stenson and Sam Munton were returning after injury.
A minutes silence preceded the match in memory of those lost in conflict. Both teams started brightly and with chances being made at both ends, it made for an entertaining games for the spectators. After 20 minutes the referee produced his yellow card for what would not be the only occasion of the afternoon and booked one of the the home team's players. The game continued at a lively pace and after 31 minutes Joseph Lyne produced a bit of magic to allow Jake Holt to fire home his cut-back to give Leicester Road the lead. As half time approached an incident led to a second yellow for the same player for Heath Hayes which saw the hosts reduced to ten men as the two teams went off for half-time.

After Heath Hayes had made a change at the break, Leicester Road were looking to increase the lead but the hosts were far from out of things at this stage and chances continued to be created at both ends. The next goals looked likely to be all important and it was Leicester Road who added to their lead when Alex Kent converted a Jack Harrison cross on 57 minutes to make the score 2-0. With the referee continuing to make use of his cards the game developed into a scrappy affair with Heath Hayes making full use of their bench to try and turn things around. On 70 minutes Leicester Road their first change with Daryll Thomas replacing Alex Kent up front. After 80 minutes the game was effectively ended as a contest when Heath Hayes were reduced to nine men following a second yellow card and Leicester Road made use of the 2 man advantage to play out the rest of the game and confirm their position at the head of the table.
